It’s neither the highest nor the widest waterfall in the world, but it’s classified as the largest, because of the combined width and height This makes it the world’s largest sheet of falling water.

When to go? 

When you come to Thorntree River Lodge, you’ll be offered many activities year-round, so there is no wrong time to travel! If you want to travel in a quieter time with more specific activities, the low season is for you. If you prefer guaranteed high-water experienceFebruary to July is perfect. 

Low Water – August to January 

There are many unique activities to do when the water levels are low, and the temperature is hot including white river rafting,hanging off the waterfall edge at Devil’s Pool, and an exclusive trip to Livingstone Island. 

During low season we take guests over to the Zimbabwean side at no extra cost (excluding visa costs). 

High Water – February to July 

Prepare to enjoy the falls in all its soaking glory. The power and beauty of the falls with its spectacular views and lunar rainbows will take your breath away. If you would like to combine Thorntree River Lodge with Zimbabwe or Botswana, it falls in our secret season where you can save on specific camps. 

Safari Season 

If you want to combine your visit to the falls with an extended safari in Zimbabwe or Botswana, the best time is June to October. Keep in mind that the later in the year you come, the dryer the falls will be, so the sweet spot is generally July to August.
